Dr. Prasanna Kumar Mishra is a well-established and experienced Urologist in Kolkata, currently attached to the Medica Superspeciality Hospital, Mukundapur, as Director and Senior Consultant of Urology & Transplant Surgery - Medica Institute of Kidney Disease. He can also be consulted at Belona Nursing Home located on Diamond Harbour Road near Mominpore in Kolkata.

In addition to a Master's degree in Surgery, and an MCh in Urology from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, Dr. Prasanna Kumar Mishra has also completed a Fellowship in Transplant Surgery from St. James's University Hospital in Leeds, UK. Dr. Mishra is a Life Member of the Urological Society of India, as well as a member of the American Urological Association and the World Endourology Society.

After clearing the MS examination in General Surgery in 1985, Dr. Prasanna Mishra joined the Central Hospital of South Eastern Railway, Kolkata, as Assistant Divisional Medical Officer (General Surgery), working on general surgery and its various branches such as urology, cancer surgery and plastic surgery. Four years later he was promoted to Divisional Medical Officer (General Surgery) and continued to work in the same hospital until 1990.

Dr. PK Mishra then joined the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, in January 1991 as Senior Resident in the Department of Urology, after being selected for the MCh course. He worked at PGIMER until January 1993 and was actively associated with teaching activities as well as routine and emergency patient management. With the MCh degree to his name, Dr. Mishra returned to the Central Hospital of South Eastern Railway in January 1993 and worked there as a Urologist up to March 1995.

Dr. Mishra joined St. James’s University Hospital, Leeds, England, as a Visiting Registrar in March 1995 and worked in the Transplant Surgery Department up to July 1995. During that period he performed kidney transplant, cadaver organ retrieval, arterio-venous fistula formation surgery, peritoneal-dialysis catheter insertion, transplant nephrectomy, etc., in addition to regularly follow-up of post-operative transplant patients. He then worked for a month as a Visiting Fellow in the Dept. of Urology of Leeds General Infirmary gaining experience in lithotripsy, and an insight into the workings of a Urology Department in the UK.

On return to India Dr. Mishra re-joined Central Hospital and carried on working there as Senior Urologist till May 2001. Other hospitals he worked at for various periods include Seven Hills Hospital in Visakhapatnam and Wockhardt Hospital and Kidney Institute (now Fortis Hospital) in Kolkata. Wockhardt/Fortis is a dedicated Urology hospital with facilities for ESWL, ureteroscopy, RIRS & PCNL. In addition to stone work it has also focus on uro-oncology, reconstructive urology and renal transplantation.

Dr. Prasanna Kumar Mishra took over as Director of Urology and Kidney Transplantation at Medica Institute of Kidney Disease located inside Medica Super Specialty Hospital in Kolkata from its inception in 2010, and was instrumental in setting up this department. This Institute has a very active renal transplantation department in addition to all facilities for Endourology (such as TURP, URS, PCNL, RIRS, Laser lithotripsy, and laparoscopic urology).

Dr. Mishra is well experienced in various endoscopic urological procedures for both lower as well as upper urinary tract, such as TUR(P), TUR(BT), optical internal urethrotomy, and urological laparoscopy including laparoscopic donor nephrectomy. He is proficient in ureteroscopy, PCNL and other endoscopic procedures in management of urinary stone disease. Dr. Mishra is also well versed with various open urological surgeries like radical nephrectomy, nephro-ureterectomy, radical cystectomy, radical prostatectomy, renal transplant surgery, continent diversion, repair of different types of genito urinary fistulas, ureteric-reimplantation, Boari-flap, pyelolithotomy, pyeloplasty, different types of urethroplasties, hypospadius repair, vaso-epididymal anastomosis and vasovasostomy, etc. He also performs arterio-venous fistula and CAPD catheter insertion.
